Anthony Johnson's Post-UFC Career 'Has Something to Do With Football'
National Football League (NFL) teams have never been afraid to bring in athletes who are trying to make the switch to football from another sport. The Seattle Seahawks just signed Louisiana State University track star Cyril Grayson recently and the Atlanta Falcons also signed University of Georgia track-and-field athlete Garrett Scantling earlier this week. Both of them didn't even play college football, but they have the athletic potential to play in the NFL.
Well, a professional mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter may be thinking of making the move to football as well.
Anthony Johnson shocked a lot of people by suddenly announcing his retirement from MMA following his UFC 210 title loss to light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier last week.
After the fight, Johnson talked about how he wanted to do something else for a while now and that was when people started speculating that he was going to join the Los Angeles Rams. After all, his Twitter account is littered with Rams-related posts. However, he has denied that he's going to play for the Rams after he hangs up his gloves.
Johnson's head coach Henri Hooft does not know what he's going to do next either, but he believes that it may have something to do with football.
"I'm not going to go into details, because I don't know the real details, but everybody sees his (social media) pages and it has to do with football," Hooft said on "The MMA Hour."
"I don't know, I didn't really discuss the details, but he seems to be busy with this for awhile and enjoying it. It has something to do, totally different than with MMA, and I think if you really want to stop fighting, you really need to step away from it, because if you keep hanging in there, you'll probably get lured back in there," he continued.
Johnson can always return to MMA in the future. But right now, he wants to try something new.
