'Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt' News: Season 2 Returns on Netflix April 15

The Tina Fey-comedy "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" is returning for its second season on April 15 on Netflix. This time around, the comedy is being produced for Netflix, and not NBC, which was the case for the first season. According to a report in Vanity Fair, the second season of the comedy series takes a "shock and awe" approach to comedy, which works for some people, but not all.

The first season introduced the lead female character, Kimmy Schmidt (played by Ellie Kemper), a 29-year old woman who is rebuilding her life in New York City after being rescued from a doomsday cult where she was being held up for 15 years. She starts her new life in the challenging city of New York where she befriends a wannabe Broadway actor Titus Andromedon (Tituss Burgess) who becomes her roommate and works for a fallen socialite Jacqueline Voorhees (Jane Krakowski). As she attempts to build her new life, she encounters many people and gets into situations that can be both ridiculous and hilarious at times. According to the Vanity Fair report, while Kimmy has spent some time outside the bunker already, the situations she gets herself in and the people she meets are still sometimes incredible. Season 2, according to Vanity Fair will take a look at "gentrification, gay romance, race and other social matters" as is expected of a Tina Fey-Robert Carlock comedy.

In a report in Variety, Ellie Kemper is interviewed about what fans can expect in the second season. She talked about her character and how she is "grappling with right vs. wrong, black vs. white, gray areas of life." She also described the coming season as one that is about "a lot of acceptance that a lot of stuff is out of her control. Without losing her optimism, she's accepting the reality of the world." She also mentioned that the end of season 2 will have an "excellent cliffhanger" especially since the show has been renewed for a third season.
