'Uncharted' Movie Latest News: Scriptwriter Joe Carnahan Compares 'Uncharted' With 'Indiana Jones'
After years of stunted development, the "Uncharted" movie is finally hitting the big screen. Recently, film writer Joe Carnahan shared some juicy details about what fans can expect in the upcoming film.
In his interview with Coming Soon, Carnahan said he wrote the script the way the "Uncharted" video game is, where characters keep on swearing. He said he did not write the script to be a PG-13 movie and that it contained "four of the biggest f*****g craziest action sequences" he has ever written. "There's no point in just transposing them to film, you've got to come up with new sh*t, so that's what I did," he said.
The writer also said he wanted viewers to see the movie more as a buddy movie, especially since Drake is always with his friend and mentor, Sully. According to him, the inevitable comparisons of "Uncharted" to "Indiana Jones" are part of the draw to the upcoming film, but he noted that there are significant differences between the two.
"Drake is not a guy who likes museums. He thinks they're all crooked. Curators are 'thieves,' the guys in the Louvre and The Met are thieves and despicable. He's a treasure hunter, not an archeologist. He doesn't have Indiana Jones' idea of pure faith in archeology," he explained.
Carnahan also went on to commend "Uncharted" game writer Amy Hennig, who, according to him, made Drake "very much anti-Indiana Jones." He said unlike Indiana Jones, Drake and Sully had the guts to abandon Elena following the pirate attack in the first game. Carnahan said while Indiana Jones would never ever abandon the female lead, Drake and Sully did.
While the prospects of Carnahan's script seem thrilling and promising, Games Radar noted that there is still a possibility that the film director will be pressured to give the studio a PG-13 cut, especially since filmmaking is a business.
As of now, the film is still in the early stages of development and has no release date yet.
