'Under the Dome' season 4 news, cast, spoilers: Idea of season 4 incredibly challenging

After three seasons, "Under the Dome" finally wrapped up. Although many hoped that it was not the actual end, and that it would be adopted by another network or perhaps an online-streaming company, it apparently was not what executive producer Neal Baer was targeting.

The season finale had some shocking moments that included the death of Sam and Junior, but a resurfaced Dawn. There's also Barbie and Julia who finally got engaged, and of course, the finale showed the dome around Chester's Mill finally coming down. Baer recently talked to TV Line and revealed how satisfied he was with the ending that his characters received. He also shared that although a fourth season was possible, he didn't think it was "necessary."

Baer also felt that the series had exhausted all possible main story lines they could have in the past three seasons. This was a good in terms story flow; however, it became a problem when a fourth season was being pitched in because nothing seemed sufficient anymore. He shares, "We really played out the dome, you know? Every kind of terrible environmental problem or catastrophe affected them. What more was there to do? We had to give answers this year. We played the first year as, "How can we deal with this? How are we going to get along as people?" The second year we played, "Is the dome good or bad?" and faith versus science. And this last year, we played the individual versus the group and the evil within. Is there hope of getting out, and how are we going to do it?"

After various hints in season 3 about the dome eventually coming down, Baer felt that it was only proper that it did come down at the end as what was planned. If season 4 did happen, though, Baer revealed that it may just become a replay of the last three seasons. He goes, "They would have gone someplace else, and the dome would come down over another place. [Laughs] But then it would be like, 'Then what?' Would we do the same thing again? It would have been a real challenge. I went on this incredibly interesting adventure that was a parable for sustainability in our world, and now, it's up to us to live the real life and do something about it.

Although many fans do feel a bit disappointed that "Under the Dome" would no longer be grazing their TV screens, it certainly feels that Baer is at peace with how it all ended, and he also made sure that fans got the proper closure the show needed.
