'Underworld' News: On the TV Adaptation of the Vampires and Werewolves Films

Before the "Twilight" films brought the hype of vampires and werewolves, "Underworld" has already established itself as a universe with the same supernatural beings living in a darker world devoid of the romance that Edward Cullen and Bella Swan enjoyed. The films of the "Underworld" universe were received with positive attention, and recent reports have revealed that the creators are moving forward by officially making it into a TV series for fans to watch.

"The series will be a pretty big departure from the films," Sketch Film's boss Len Wiseman told Deadline. "I don't want to say it's more adult, but it's definitely less comic book in its tone and character."

Wiseman is set to executively produce the upcoming TV series, and Lakeshore Entertainment's Tom Rosenberg, Gary Lucchesi and Eric Reid will also be working with him to bring "Underworld" into TV screens. Considering that Wiseman directed and co-wrote the first two films in the "Underworld" universe, his depiction that it will be a bit different sounds daunting to the fans.

Currently, the plot of the TV adaptation of "Underworld" is still being kept under wraps. Although details are scarce, fans are expecting to see the return of the film series' male protagonist, Selene, who was played by Kate Beckinsale. There is no word on whether Beckinsale has been signed for the TV series but rumours say that it is unlikely. Regardless, Wiseman is expected to bring another creation that will rival all the other vampires versus werewolves stories that have been released thus far.

Wiseman has not yet announced an official release date for the "Underworld" TV series. However, fans are expecting to have more details in the coming months. Furthermore, rumours indicate that the series will be released next year. For now, fans can go ahead and binge-watch the films that have already been released for "Underworld."
