'UnREAL' Season 2 Spoilers: An African-American Bachelor Will Finally Make His Way on TV
"UnREAL" will take it where "The Bachelor" has not yet dared going to in its 20 seasons, the show-within-a-show series finally cast an African-American bachelor.
"UnREAL" is a dark comedy TV show that features the behind-the-scenes of "Everlasting," which is a dating show that is similar to "The Bachelor's" format. The first run of the series was controversial, and even the star of the show, Constance Zimmer, admits that they are "not afraid to anything."
According to E! Online, the stars and the producers of "UnREAL" are all excited to tackle "race" in the upcoming season. Zimmer told the website that she's excited to go a little bit further than what they did in the initial run of the show. "It's actually really exciting because I do feel like the second season for us means we can kind of go darker," the actress who plays the cunning executive producer, Quinn, said.
The website also said that since the show will be having a black suitor this season, besides race, feminism and masculinity will also be put up on the table. "UnREAL's" creator, Sarah Gertrude Shapiro, told the website that the issue is very compelling now, and they would like the show to do something about it. "We definitely have different voices in the room representing different points of view on this, but I think it's a really complicated issue and that being PC about it sometimes stops us from making progress because we're all too scared to talk about it," she said.
Shapiro admitted that she's terrified in not fully delivering the message and messing it up, but feels that the show really "should do it." "I think it's really important," she concluded.
Entertainment Weekly also shared part of Zimmer's interview during the Television Critics Association's press tour last Wednesday, and the actress said that she's happy that viewers tell her that they are now watching reality shows like "The Bachelor" differently. "For us, that's the hugest compliment ever. It's all we ever wanted to do, is pull back the curtain. We've been able to do that, though it makes me very nervous about the second season," Zimmer said. Fans are definitely looking forward to watch "UnREAL" this summer.
