Updated Facebook Search Expands Coverage to Include Users' Public Posts
The updated Facebook Search brings an expanded trove of information for users as it now includes public posts and entries.
In the past, users can only search for their contacts on the social network, but now Facebook Search has been expanded to include all of users' public posts. Although there have been concerns about the change affecting privacy, users still have the option to change the visibility settings of their posts to shield them from the prying eyes of the public, according to Android Community.
The update in Facebook Search was done to make the social network more search-friendly and to provide users with more relevant results. It also transforms Facebook into something similar to Google, although not as comprehensive. Plus, it provides Facebook a way to monitor what people have been saying about a certain event, TV show, or any subject, the Independent reports.
The change in Facebook Search will allow users to search for current events, brands, companies, and news, and view the top and latest content about a certain keyword. In addition, users will be able to find public conversations and opinions about a certain topic in real time or in the past, the report details.
However, there are those who do not want their Facebook posts to be included in the search results and only want to keep their content visible to their circle of friends. To prevent content from being searchable on Facebook, users can either delete all their public posts or tweak the privacy settings to set their audience to anything but "Public."
Privacy settings of past Facebook posts can also be changed. Under the Account Settings and Privacy, the user only needs to choose from the options given in "Who can see my stuff?" and tick "Limit Old Posts," the report adds.
Facebook's next move in improving its Search function is to include Photos and People in the coverage of the results.
