'UQ Holder! Mahou Sensei Negima 2' Air Date, Spoilers: New 'Negima!' Series Coming This Fall

It may have taken a while, but the continuation of the popular Japanese fantasy anime series, "Mahou Sensei Negima," is finally hitting the small screen this October.

Officially titled, "UQ Holder! Mahou Sensei Negima! 2," the upcoming anime series is set in the same world as the aforementioned series, but picking the narrative thread up in 2086, ten years after magic has been revealed to the world.

The story follows a young boy named Touta Konoe, who gets transformed into a vampire after attempting to protect her guardian, Yukihime, from a bounty hunter. It turns out that Yukihime is actually the legendary vampire and magician, Evangeline A.K. McDowell, and thus, she uses her ability to save Touta from death by transforming the young boy into a vampire.

Touta will subsequently join Yukihime's covenant of immortal beings known as the "UQ Holder," and he will, later on, discover that Negi Springfield, his grandfather, who was once a great mage fighting for the safety of the world, has now been possessed by an ominous entity known as the "Mage of Beginning."

The series is based on the ongoing manga series of the same name created by Ken Akamatsu, who also previously worked on the first "Mahou Sensei Negima" series. It was serialized first in the Weekly Shounen Magazine from 2013 to 2016, then on Bessatsu Shounen Magazine from 2016 to present.

The upcoming anime adaptation will be directed by Youhei Suzuki for the studio, J.C. Staff, with the manga creator himself handling the series composition together with Shogo Yasukawa. The series will be produced by EGG FIRM and will feature the same cast from the "Negima!" series.

An original video animation was recently released on Friday, Sept. 8

"UQ Holder! Mahou Sensei Negima! 2" premieres on Monday, Oct. 2, at midnight JST on Tokyo MX, Sun TV, KBS Kyoto, and BS11. Information on other broadcast schedules and online resources can be found on the series' official site.
