US Electoral 2016 Updates – Donald Trump Gains Ground Over Clinton According to National Tracking Poll; While Reuters/Ipsos Show Clinton Up More than 8 Percentage Points
National Tracking Poll revealed Trump over Clinton by a small margin while Reuters/Ipsos showed Clinton up 8 points over Trump.
A national tracking poll for the U.S. 2016 Presidential elections revealed that Republican Donald Trump has gained the favor of more voters over Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton. This newfound increase was said to have followed a decline of Trump on the polls early this month. The survey also revealed that there could be a possibility that the two could battle head to head come November.
The result of this national poll was in contrast to what Reuters/Ipsos latest tracking poll showed where Hillary Clinton was up with more than 8 percentage points over Trump.
Trump has improved his standings after the Democratic National Convention when he challenged the Muslim American parents of a killed soldier in Iraq to a war of words. He also made a huge controversy when he encouraged Russia to hack his opponent's email.
Trump 45%, Clinton 43% in national polls
The results showed a different number from other polls which show Clinton ahead of Trump by a number of points. Donald Trump was at 45% while Clinton was at 43%. The poll was conducted after Trump announced a change in his campaign management. Paul Manfort, Trump's campaign manager was removed since he was formerly involved with pro-Kremlin leaders in the Ukraine.
More turnouts for Trump supporters
According to the poll, more Trump supporters plan to vote than Clinton supporters by a slight margin 83% to 82%. A week ago, it was a different story as only 78% of Trump supporters plan to vote while Clinton supporters were at 83%.
Who would win?
The national poll also asked respondents who they think will actually win the polls. This is the question that has the best ability to predict election results than asking who will people vote for. According to the latest results, Hillary Clinton leads by 54% to 40%.
Different results from Reuters/Ipsos
Latest Reuters/Ipsos poll showed Hillary Clinton with 42.3% while Donald Trump has 34.2%. The poll was based from 6,129 respondents and was taken August 18, 2016. The Reuters/Ipsos poll also revealed that around 10% refused to vote, while 9.1% said that they favored other candidates. 4.2% of respondents refused to vote.
The Reuters/Ipsos poll mentioned that the Democrat nominee has led the surveys most of the campaign period. Reports have ranged from 41% to 44% of likely voters. Trump on the other hand ranged from 33% to 39%.
Clinton and Trump amidst controversies
During her campaign, Clinton was able to address questions about her policies on employment, health and economic reform but was not spared from controversies. Recently she was asked questions about how she handled classified emails. Trump on the other hand had to hire a new campaign management team as he dodged controversies from different groups.
Republican heads such as former members of Congress has called on their party to stop supporting Trump. The leaders said that they should focus their resources on candidates that can better represent their ideals.
