World No. 2 Andy Murray will face World No. 6 Kei Nishikori at the quarterfinals of the US Open this Wednesday.
The British tennis superstar has won seven out of eight games against Japanese wonder Nishikori. Their latest match was at the Rio 2016 Olympics, which was only last month. The two will battle each other at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in front of hundreds of US fans and still millions of tennis viewers at home.
Murray's repeat performance
Murray granted a special interview regarding this quarterfinal matchup with Nishikori. He said that he has played against the Japanese in the past, however, the World No. 6 likes these conditions. He also mentioned that given they just played weeks ago and he was able to defeat him, he will need to do what he did before to win. He praised Nishikori saying that he is one of the best tennis players in the world.
The two tennis greats have also met in a number of events this year. The two also played against each other in the Davis Cup in early 2016. Murray also won this event.
The two's on-court drama led to Murray's winning once in a five-set manner at the Davis Cup and then in a routine, straight-set at the Olympics. Reports said that Murray should not write off Nishikori just yet, because he has become a tougher and more challenging opponent.
The winner of the quarterfinal match will face Juan Martin del Potro from Argentina or Stan Wawrinka from Switzerland who is currently World No. 3. del Potro and Wawrinka will battle on Thursday in a night session event also at the Arthur Ashe Stadium.
