"History repeats itself" is something that the US team is trying to avoid as it goes against Costa Rica for the Group A of Copa America 2016 on Tuesday.

Sports Illustrated explained that Dempsey could be showing great determination to win the game because USA does not want another poor performance during the openers to cause them the chance at the Copa America title. It noted that the 2-0 loss to Colombia during their first game could already be a sign that the host country may not make it again this year.
However, the US team remains positive that they will cruise through in the tournament even with many people questioning their ability to stay until the end. Defender John Brooks told Sports Illustrated that the team made mistakes during their first game but they remain in the lineup with great possibility to improve.
On the other hand, Costa Rica had a 0-0 draw versus Paraguay last Saturday, giving the US team, which is at the bottom of Group A, the chance to secure a single point to get to second place, MLS Soccer highlighted. The two best teams for each group will advance to the quarterfinals.
Los Ticos are up for a challenge going against USA but their bigger problem is losing centerback Kendall Waston, Orlando Sentinel reported. The Vancouver Whitecaps player was taken out of the game versus Paraguay due to an "aggressive tackle" from the back.
Waston said he had to do his move but respected the decision to eject him from the game. He recognized that it was hard to go against a team like Paraguay. He tagged the matchup as a challenging game for the Los Ticos.
For his part, Costa Rica coach Oscar Ramirez said they faced a team that did not gave them the chance to take control of the game. He added that the climate could have also resulted to the 0-0 score for both teams.
