Despite only being an exhibition game, the United States kept their aggression on from the onset of the match and showed why they were deserving winners of the recently-concluded Women's World Cup.

From kick-off, the Americans looked to score and were rewarded in the fourth minute when Heather O'Reilly scored after taking the ball away from the Costa Rica defenders and beat the goalkeeper for her 42nd international goal.

In the 29th, the lead was doubled by Christen Press after her first attempt was blocked, she was the first to get the rebound and slot the ball towards the right side of the net.

Julie Johnston added her name to the scorers in the game in the 36th minute after a corner kick from Megan Rapinoe found Johnston unmarked running towards the near post. She would then head the ball in to make it 3-0.

To finish off the dominating half, Press scored her brace by collecting a failed clearance before slotting the ball home in the 45th.

In the second half, the pace remained the same as Meghan Klingenberg only needed 11 minutes from the restart to make it 5-0.

Only needing four minutes to score again, O'Reilly scored her second of the game. After a shot from Press hit the cross bar, the ball fell safely on O'Reilly's path with an open net for her to safely score.

Whitney Engen made it 7-0 only three minutes later as she scored in the 63rd after another set piece almost turned into a goal. After the ball bounced off the pitch, Engen was first to react to head the ball in.

Press completed her hat trick in the 68th as she made a run and collected the ball before shooting at the top left corner of the goal to make it 8-0 and complete her second hat trick of her career.

In this second friendly, expect the Americans to keep the same level of intensity, while the Costa Ricans will try to produce a better performance.
