Usher and ESPYs Cancelation Following Jet Ski Accident
Usher canceled on his appearance at the ESPYs Wednesday night in lieu of an accident that left his stepson brain dead.
It was confirmed on Wednesday before the awards ceremony began that the Grammy winning hip hop-hop artist would no longer be in attendance. The award show, which celebrates top athletes and teams, began promptly at nine with no Usher in sight.
The singer, 33, instead remained with his family, which is still mourning the tragic accident which left his stepson, Kyle Grover, brain dead. Usher became close to Kyle during his 2-year marriage to Tameka Foster from 2007-2009.

"He grew close to Kyle and, of course, that has nothing to do with the situation with Tameka," a source explained to Us Weekly. "He loved Kyle. This is a terrible, awful tragedy. Usher is torn up."
Kyle was involved in a jet ski accident over the weekend. While inner-tubing in Lake Lanier in Atlanta, Ga., the 11 year-old was hit in the head by a jet ski, leaving the boy brain dead. The girl driving the jet ski was only 15 years old and while police are investigating the incident, no charges have been pressed.
Some hope the incident will bring greater awareness to the danger of jet ski accidents that have occurred in the past.
"This happens every summer but unless it happens to a celebrity no one notices it much unless it is a friend, family member or a member of your children's school," MoeMoe prompted on the Yahoo blog. "They need to put age limits on these crafts plus also people can have their children as young as 13 go out in a speed boat!
While Usher kept a low profile at home, the awards show went on with Jeremy Lin winning the title for "Best Breakthrough Athlete." LeBron James and Brittney Griner won best male and female athlete.
