Vaio Phone Biz News: Windows 10 Smartphone Released In Japan With 'Continuum' Integration
Japanese manufacturer Vaio has finally released its long-rumored smartphone, the Vaio Phone Biz, which runs on the Windows 10 mobile OS and packs features that make it a "business-oriented" smartphone more than anything. According to a report in Tech Times, the new smartphone is designed with the business user in mind, first with its sleek aluminium body, as opposed to the plastic build of most Windows phones in the market.
The device's specs also point to a device that is more productivity oriented rather than entertainment oriented. Under the hood, it is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 processor which runs at 1.5 GHz, paired with 3 GB of RAM. An Adreno 405 GPU powers its 5.5-inch screen, which has a resolution of 1,080 pixels.
According to the report, the Vaio Phone Biz is also powered with Continuum for Windows phones, which basically allows smartphone users to use their phones for big-screen projection for multimedia presentations for example or for productivity tools such as word processing and spread sheets by connecting the phone to compatible peripherals.
The device is also equipped with a 13-megapixel rear facing camera and a 5-megapixel selfie camera. Missing on the phone however are features that are almost considered standard among 2016 smartphones – the fingerprint scanner and the USB Type-C port.
Connectivity support includes 3G, 4G LTE, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, among others. One of the device's main selling points is that it is a device that uses Windows 10 Mobile, which is a rare breed among smartphones these days. Having a Windows 10 phone usually means that its users may easily integrate the phone with their other Windows devices, such as personal computers.
The device is currently only available in Silver, and it is said to cost around $430. It will only be available in Japan exclusively, starting in April. Vaio has not made any announcements if they will make the phone available outside of Japan.
