Valerie Harper's Condition: Actress 'Feeling Really Good'
Actress Valerie Harper is doing quite well these days after battling cancer and appearing on a memorable season of "Dancing With the Stars." Harper made a return for the final episode of dancing competition and gave an update on her condition.
"I don't have any big terrible symptoms, so as long as that's happening and I'm seeing my doctors, what's to complain about? There's people out there really suffering, so I'm feeling pretty good. I had a few little strange things but they probably would have happened anyway," Harper told People after the show.
Harper, who became famous for her starring role on "Rhoda," made headlines when she admitted to being diagnosed with terminal brain cancer earlier this year. She defied the odds of dying suddenly and decided to compete on "Dancing With the Stars" in order to show others that anything is possible.
"I think the show will play a major part in my recovery," Harper told In Touch Weekly before starting the competition. "I feel much better. At first I really didn't want to do it. I really love the show, but I was afraid. I prefer to live as though this is all we have, because we could drop dead at any given moment. When life asks you to dance, you just have to dance."
She and dance partner Tristan McManus successfully competed for several weeks but were eventually booted from the show. Harper told People that "it was great to be with Tristan again and all my buds, all these lovely friends I made." The two then danced one last time for the finale.
"I'm not looking back. I'm only looking forward," she said, before adding that she did the show "to tell people to keep moving – even if you don't get the steps, keep on moving, one foot in front of the other, as best you can."
Fans continue to follow the star and wish her nothing but the best for the future.
"God bless you and Tony," People reader Truthfinder posted online. "We're thankful for your inspiring lessons you leave along the journey. May the Lord bless and keep you. May the Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious unto you. May the Lord lift His countenance upon you and give you peace … Seems to me like He already has."
