'Van Helsing' Gets Season 3 Order From Syfy

It's official: "Van Helsing" will have a third season.

Syfy has picked up the series for a third installment ahead of its season 2 finale, according to reports. The hour-long program is scheduled to conclude its sophomore run on Thursday, Jan. 4, at 9 p.m. EST. Production for the new 13-episode season is expected to start in Feb. 2018.

"I couldn't be happier to learn that Syfy has renewed Van Helsing for a Season 3 — it has been a wonderful journey thus far, but we have much more of the 'Van Helsing' saga to tell before we're through," said showrunner Neil LaBute in a press release.

He further teased that the writing team has prepared interesting adventures for all characters, as well as exciting surprises. "Expect blood to be spilled and characters to die screaming while the fate of humanity slips closer and closer to the edge of true chaos and utter darkness," he added.

Debuted in July 2016, "Van Helsing" follows Vanessa Van Helsing (Kelly Overton) — an extraordinary woman who leads a resistance against vampires. Evil forces have risen into power, turning the country into a massive wasteland after volcanic ash left the sky completely darkened. Humanity's last hope is Vanessa, who awakens from a three-year coma to learn that she has a unique ability to make vampires human again.

Season 2 left off with Dylan (Hannah Cheramy) being experimented on and turning into a vampire. Vanessa spent a long time trying to keep her safe and alive until she eventually decided to take matters into her own hands. She attempted to cure her with a bite but instead of becoming human again, she crumbled into dust.

"Van Helsing" season 3 is scheduled to premiere Fall 2018 on Syfy. A definitive release date has yet to be announced by the network.
