Vaping News: US FDA Regulations for Tobacco, E-Cigarettes, Vapes Start on Monday
New FDA Rules and Regulations on Vape and Smoke Shops Start Monday
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have imposed a stricter set of rules for e-cigarette and vape shops across the country.
Starting Monday, cigarette and vape shops in the US will no longer be able to fully assist their customers when it comes to putting their vaping devices together. Store-made juices will be illegal to sell and e-cigarettes will no longer be available for sale to minors or those under 18 years of age. The FDA regulations extend to all tobacco products and vapes, Everything Lubbock reports.
New FDA Regulations on Tobacco, E-Cigarettes, Vapes
Those who would sell repackaged vape juices will have to comply with the FDA regulations and increase their prices because they are still considered as manufacturers by the FDA. An e-cigarette store owner has told the outlet that they would close down their shop instead of complying with the regulations set by the FDA.
On to the FDA's side, with the new regulations set to start on Monday, they will be able to review tobacco products starting tomorrow. Furthermore, they can evaluate tobacco product ingredients, prevent misleading labeling from manufacturers and issue warning on the risks of using tobacco, WKBN noted.
The new regulations were announced by the FDA earlier this May as part of the 2009 Tobacco Control Act which will now include cigars and hookahs.
New FDA Regulations Burden Manufacturers?
In lieu with FDA having stringent control over the tobacco, e-cigarette and vaping industry, manufacturers will now have to undergo scientific review from the government agency. This process is both costly and time-consuming as companies will have to wait for at least a year to be able to sell their products again, US News and World Report noted.
Fall of Tobacco, Rise of Vaping, E-Cigarettes
There has been a noticeable decline in tobacco use in the country and this may be attributed to e-cigarettes and vaping. Switching to electronic cigarettes have helped ease tobacco addiction among people, but while it is considered less harmful of the two, it doesn't mean it is harmless at all, Inside Sources said.
The long-term effects of e-cigarette use and vaping are currently unknown. The FDA regulations will ensure that the government agency will shed more light on the health effects of vaping through more studies on these devices.
