'Veep' Season 6 Plot News, Update: Official Trailer Reveals Selina Coping With Post-Presidency
Season 6 of the Emmy Award-winning comedy series "Veep" is only a month away, and HBO is making sure that the excitement is at an all-time high. The official trailer for the upcoming season was recently released online, and it sees Selina Meyer navigating her life post-presidency.
The clip is only a minute and a half long, but it manages to pack a whole lot of punch--enough to get viewers riled up with anticipation. It opens with Selina, played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus, recapping her past year while appearing on "CBS This Morning."
"Well, this last year has been fun," she says in her usual unconvincing way. "You know, really fun."
The next scene sees Jonah (Timothy Simons) meeting Selina, presumably for the first time in a long time, and he is visibly shaken by her appearance. Jonah, who is sporting a new haircut, sits down as Selina threatens him.
"I want to let you know that I will destroy you in ways that are so creative, they will honor me for it at the Kennedy center," she says up-close.
Meanwhile, Amy (Anna Chlumsky) is busy being the campaign manager of a new candidate, and it is apparent that she does not like her new boss or state. Mike (Matt Walsh) is being his usual self, and Ben (Kevin Dunn) and Kent (Gary Cole) are also back.
The rest of the trailer follows Selina's life after the White House, volunteering and visiting refugee camps--all the while accompanied by her loyal aide, Gary (Tony Hale).
Louis-Dreyfus recently spoke to The Daily Beast about the show, as well as the comparisons being drawn between her character and Hilary Clinton, now more than ever as both women lost their bids for the presidency. Asked whether she herself would ever consider going into politics, Louis-Dreyfus revealed she has no plans of doing so.
"I'm not a politician! In that circumstance I'm a concerned American citizen and a patriot and wanted to say what I did," she said. "I'm not somebody who's going to run for office."
The premiere date of "Veep" season 6, which was previously revealed by Louis-Dreyfus and showrunner David Mandel, is on April 16 at 10:30 p.m. EDT on HBO.
