'Veep' Season 6 Spoilers, Plot News: HBO Releases New Trailer

HBO has recently released the first official trailer of the upcoming sixth season of its political comedy TV series, "Veep."

Released on President's Day, the trailer for the Emmy-winning political comedy offered a sneak peek at Selina Meyer (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) as she tries to adjust to a life outside politics in the upcoming season.

Meyer was previously the vice president of the United States, but at the end of season 3, she became the country's first female commander-in-chief when a presidential scandal left her in charge. In season 5, she sought to be re-elected to the presidency after her brief stint in the Oval Office. However, she ultimately lost to eventual incumbent Laura Montez (Andrea Savage) in a tie-breaking Senate vote.

In the teaser released by HBO, Meyer appears to be salvaging her legacy by continuing with her public appearances, according to Entertainment Weekly. She is seen traveling and attending different events, with a small staff tagging along for the ride.

Her staff in the season 6 teaser includes familiar characters such as her loyal personal assistant Gary (Tony Hale), her not-so competent campaign aide Richard (Sam Richardson), and her former press secretary Mike (Matt Walsh).

"Being an ex-president is like being a man's nipple," Meyer says in the preview. She later likens her current position to vulgar sexual behavior.

"I was the first female president," Selina shouts defiantly at her team in another scene in the trailer. "I will not work for less than 87 cents on the dollar. And tell him I'll stand at a glass podium and wear a short skirt," she continues.

As reported by Screen Crush, "Veep" returns on Sunday, April 16, at 10:30 p.m. EST, with HBO's other comedy series "Silicon Valley" premiering at the 10:00 p.m. slot a week after on April 23. Both series will be preceded by the final season of "The Leftovers."

"Veep" season 6 will premiere on Sunday, April 16, at 10:30 p.m. EST on HBO.
