Vegan Flips Out Over $12 Restaurant Bill in Vegan-Pasta Fight
A vegan has flipped out at a restaurant after he was billed the full price for a meal even though they had brought their own pasta.
Jack and Toby Litsky reported agreed together to turn vegan when they celebrated their 50th birthdays. The pair decided that they should change their eating habits, completely cutting out meat, dairy, and fat so that they could be healthier, lose weight and keep their cholesterol levels at good levels in their older age.
However, they have since admitted that although their efforts have been working well, they have found it more of a challenge to eat out.

Jack has claimed that even though many places state they use vegan-friendly wholegrain pasta on their menus, they actually do not offer the choice in reality when he has attempted to order it.
Jack has since thought of a way to get around the problem - he would purchase and take with him, his own dried vegan-friendly wholegrain pasta. He would then give it to the restaurant waiter to take to the chef to cook for them. According to Jack restaurants would give a discount as they were using their own ingredients - therefore cutting the costs for the restaurant. Jack claims, according to reports, that a typical meal would generally cost about $12 under that deal.
Monticello restaurant in NJ was happy to conduct this deal with Jack and offer him a discount, making it one of his favorite eateries. However, at the weekend the restaurant became the target of Jack's wrath when they tried to charge $24 - the full price of the meal - even though he had brought his own vegan-friendly pasta. He was also prohibited from using a $50 coupon to pay for the meal.
Jack took his anger to the New Jersey Star-Ledger, which subsequently wrote a 1,300 word piece on how Jack had been treated. A photo was included showing Jack looking solemn holding his special pasta.
Jack told the publication: "[The owner] said, 'You come here on a Saturday night and order a custom meal. I have to charge you extra.' I said, 'But you've already set the precedent where you charged me a lot less than that on several occasions,' and she said that was the old manager's decision and this was the new price."
When jack refused to pay the police were even called, and Jack was threatened that a refusal to pay would be considered a "theft of services." That eventually led to Jack paying the full price, but his anger has not subsided and he stormed off to tell his story to the public.
According to reports, after the news became public the restaurant decided to refund $12 to Jack.
