'Venom' Movie Release Date Update: Filming Delayed Due to Lack of Manpower?
Sony's latest venture into the world of "Spider-Man" has hit a snag, with the filming of the "Venom" movie being pushed back more than a month. The movie's studio is even now trying to hire enough crew to get shooting started, even if it takes until late October.
"Venom," a new spin-off movie commissioned by Sony Pictures to bank on the recent success of the "Spider-Man" franchise, is now dealing with some delays due to a lack of manpower. Production of the movie was supposed to push through on Sep. 1, as originally planned according to Omega Underground.
The movie, being headed by "The Dark Knight Rises" star Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock, is supposed to start shooting in Atlanta and New York City starting this month. The studio could not start by the first of September due to a lack of crew, as recent hiring ads put out by Columbia Pictures would hint at.
Sony pictures were casting out for more crew members, including "production assistants, grips, gaffers, make-up artists, stylists, wardrobe artists, and other crew members," as listed out by Comic Book. The new starting date for filming in the two cities is now set to Oct. 23.
Even as production has been delayed for more than a month, the planned release date for "Venom," set on Oct. 5, 2018, has not been changed as of this time. This setback is also not expected to have any effect on the premiere date, either.
This is the first feature that will come out of Sony's own "Marvel Universe" franchise umbrella, and it will be directed by "Zombieland's" Ruben Fleischer. Tom Hardy plays the burly anti-hero Eddie Brock, who will later on play host to the Symbiote to become Venom.
"Venom," even as a "Spider-Man" spin-off, will not have the web-slinger in it. As such, the story for the movie is expected to take a different direction from the comic book canon when it debuts to cinemas everywhere next year.
