'Venom' Movie Spoilers, Cast: Michelle Williams Joins Sony Project
The "Venom" movie being developed by Sony Pictures separate from the Marvel Cinematic Universe has added another big star to its cast in Michelle Williams.
According to Deadline, the Oscar nominated actress is in talks to star in the upcoming film, which will feature Tom Hardy in the titular role and Emmy award-winning actor Riz Ahmed.
Sony is keeping their cards close to their chest at this time, but Variety cites sources who claim that Williams will play the role of a district attorney in the "Venom" movie who could also be the love interest for Hardy's character.

The site adds that Sony executives and Ruben Fleischer, who will direct the film, have been meeting with multiple actresses in the past month to cast the part that ultimately went to Williams.
Either way, it looks like the "Venom" movie is shaping up quite nicely. As noted by Sony in the past, the film will stand on its own and will not be connected to the current "Spider-Man" universe in the big screen.
As fans now very well, Sony and Marvel Studios agreed to bring the superhero to the MCU, which resulted in Tom Holland being introduced as the new web slinger in "Captain America: Civil War" and more recently his solo film "Spider-Man: Homecoming."
Despite this, Sony is looking to still make the most out of their licensing rights for the wall-crawler universe even without Spider-Man in the picture.
This is why apart from the "Venom" project, the studio is also working on "Silver and Black," a film that centers on Silver Sable and Black Cat, who are significant characters in the Spidey comic books as well.
"Venom" is slated to hit the theaters in Oct. 5, 2018 with production set to begin next month. "Silver and Black" is set for a 2019 launch.
