'Vice Principals' Season 2 News: Danny McBride Explains Why Show Is Only Two Seasons Long
Gamby (Danny McBride) gears up for the final semester when "Vice Principals" returns for season 2.
The HBO comedy easily gained fans when it debuted last year. However, it was confirmed in July that the series is only meant to last for two seasons. Lead star McBride recently caught up with Entertainment Weekly and explained why the program will end in season 2.
"I think I had been burned by too many TV shows that I invested in," McBride said, noting how most programs start well and eventually conclude on a weak note. "You don't know if you saw the completed thing that the original creators had in mind," he added. "So we wanted to create a show that finality to it, that had a beginning, middle, and end, and give people a complete story."
When asked about a possible return to the small screen, McBride mentioned that he is not closing his doors considering how much he enjoyed his time working with co-star Walton Goggins.
Following the action-packed events of the first installment, season 2 picks up during the Spring semester of the same school year. Gamby has returned after recovering from the shooting, but the identity of the gunman remains unknown. Russell (Goggins) finally finds himself as the King of the High School and he has made a lot of changes while Gamby was away.
Further details about the new season remain under wraps. Cinemablend notes the story might focus on the conflict between Russell and Gamby as the two characters attempt to hold onto the power they had just gotten a hold of. McBride teased that it will end on the "logical conclusion" of the story they have been telling since season 1.
The second and final season of "Vice Principals" premieres Sunday, Sept. 17, at 10:30 p.m. EDT on HBO.
