'Vikings' Season 4 News, Spoilers: Sword And Shield Drama Might Continue Without Ragnar

It is really difficult to think of "Vikings" without the actor Travis Fimmel's central character, King Ragnar Lothbrok, in it. But the latest updates seem to suggest that fans might want to start considering the hit historical drama TV series from History Channel without the brave King of Denmark.

New reports emerged in the past few weeks pointing out to the possibility that the sword and shield drama might go on without the Christian Viking warrior. Word from the streets said that Fimmel is now on the verge of deciding to quit the small screen project to focus his time in doing the upcoming game-inspired movie "Warcraft" where he is set to appear as Sir Anduin Lothar, one of the lead protagonists in the film.

If he chose to go all-in to the big screen, it means that the Viking show will have to kill off Ragnar and pass the limelight perhaps to one of his many sons. This is a fact that the series creator Michael Hirst had already envisioned.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he said, "I've always seen Vikings without Ragnar. I thought it was very important when I started thinking about this whole thing that Ragnar had many sons and some of his sons became more famous than he was."

Given this premise, it would be easy for the show to continue and further tell the adventures of the family, more specifically the exploits of Ragnar's warrior sons.

As to who among his offspring would be likely to replace him on the throne, Hirst said that it could really be Bjorn, Ragnar's son to Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick), played by Alexander Ludwig.

According to the showrunner, Bjorn's motives to see the welfare of the people instead of the gods, power, and status, really makes him the rightful next king of Denmark.

"Vikings" Season 4 is slated to air early on 2016. Stay tuned for more updates.
