Vizio's New TVs Feature Google Cast Functionality, HDR and Android Tablets Compatibility Support

This Tuesday, Mar. 22, Vizio announced the launching of its latest P-Series 4K HDTVs which works with the built-in Google Cast – or what has been formerly known as Chromecast.

The first for any TV set, the report from Engadget.com said that the TVs don't have any native apps but users can stream contents from Google Cast. TV sizes range from 50- to 75-inches.

Simultaneously unveiled is the Vizio SmartCast app, which is part of the entertainment company's new P-Series Ultra HD HDR Home Theater Display collection. This feature serves as the "central hub for discovering media" where users can also access on all of the TV's controls and settings.

Aside from functioning as a remote control, the 6" Android tablet which is included in the P-Series can also be used to play games and other apps, Hindustan Times report. These apps can be downloaded over at the Google Play Store.

Engadget meanwhile added that the new P-Series is compatible with HDR and Dolby vision support, as well as ultra-wide color spectrum. These mentioned features are now available down to Vizio's cheaper entertainment sets.

Users, however, should take note that the P-Series does not support Amazon's Prime video. This is despite the fact that the previous reiteration of the smart TV has an Amazon app. They can still watch Amazon videos using a separate set-top box.

On to the TV itself, the website commended its "ability to reach inky-deep black levels."

"It was hard to tell the black imagery on screen from the opening of Man of Steel from the surrounding darkness. Honestly, it's enough to convince me to leave my plasma TV sometime soon," Engadget wrote.

The HDR technology, meanwhile, "shined" with its eye popping colors most especially in the spectrum of red.

The 50-inch Vizio P-Series TV is priced at $1,000, the 55-inch model for $1,300. The 65-inch, on the other hand, ships at $2,000. Those with cash to spare can grab the 75-incher for $3,800.
