Walmart Shopping Cart DUI: Man Arrested for Drink Driving in Walmart

A man riding a motorized Walmart shopping cart has been charged with DUI this week in Florida.

The bizarre incident took place in Brooksville, Florida last weekend and according to reports resulted in a man being charged with both felony retail theft and disorderly intoxication.

Local man, Timothy Carr, was seen driving around a Walmart store recklessly, according to reports, and even drove to the alcohol section of the store to pick up some alcoholic beverages.

Carr took some alcoholic drinks from the shelf and opened one and began drinking. He then apparently drove the vehicle recklessly around the store, bashing into the shelves, knocking numerous other items off onto the floor, according to witnesses.

Carr has been arrested for retail theft before in the past, and this is in fact his third such offense. Because of the number of offenses, his charge has now been escalated to a felony crime, and he could even face jail time.

Police say Carr, a transient, was spotted around 9 p.m. local time on Sunday drunk and behind the wheel of a motorized shopping cart, according to WFLA.

Carr allegedly told police he was a transient, and that he did not have money to pay for the alcohol.

Carr is not the only person to be arrested for driving drunk in a non-street vehicle. In May of last year another man called Joe Bruss pleaded guilty to driving a Zamboni drunk. According to WCCO, Bruss had an alcohol level of .32 when he was arrested for being drunk while working as a part time ice rink attendant. His alcohol blood level put him four times over Minnesota's legal driving limit. In that incident parents and pee-wee hockey players were forced to stand by and watch in amazement as Bruss recklessly swiveled and swerved across the ice.

A DUI in Walmart is relatively rare, and usually more extraordinary behavior is associated to the store's Black Friday sales and chaotic scenes as consumers fight for the best deals. Here is a video report about the chaos in Walmart on Black Friday:
