Washington Redskins Roster, Injury News 2017: Cornerback Josh Norman to Miss Four Weeks With Rib and Lung Injuries

The Washington Redskins cornerback Josh Norman may have avoided a serious injury, but he will still have to sit on the sidelines for a month while he recovers from a fractured rib.

The 2015 first-team All-Pro cornerback has confirmed that he will be on the shelf for at least four weeks. Since the Redskins have a bye week, Norman will only miss the games against the San Francisco 49ers, Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys. Barring any setbacks, he should return when they take on Seattle Seahawks on Nov. 5.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport has reported that the Pro Bowler has sustained damage to his lung lining as well. Fortunately, he avoided a possible punctured lung or other serious internal injuries.

Norman went down with the injury when he tackled Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Chris Conley in the second quarter of their matchup last Monday. He actually asked the coaches to let him return, but they made the right move by holding him out for the remainder of the game.

"I just have to take my time and have faith. I wanted to go out there, but do I more help the team or hurt the team if I can't really run and breathe hard. It was tough. I told them to put me out there as a decoy. I was coming up with a whole bunch of things, let me get back out there. I just wanted to give [teammates] juice just like they give me," Norman said after the game, via ESPN.

The Redskins could really use one of their top defensive players in the next few weeks, but head coach Jay Gruden has already noted that they weren't going to rush him back and risk the possibility of aggravating the injury.

With Norman sidelined, the Redskins will have to rely on Bashaud Breeland and Quinton Dunbar in the next few games.
