Washington Redskins Defensive End Jonathan Allen Diagnosed with Lisfranc Injury, Could Miss Three to Four Weeks
Washington Redskins rookie defensive end Jonathan Allen will have to sit out a few games this season due to a foot injury.
During a press conference on Monday, Redskins head coach Jay Gruden confirmed that Allen has been diagnosed with a Lisfranc sprain in his left foot and he's expected to miss three to four weeks of action while he recovers.
"He is a young player, but he plays it like a veteran. He has got great fundamentals. He's got a great idea of run/pass, how to get off blocks. He has got strong hands and he was getting a pretty consistent pass rush push. He doesn't have a lot of sacks obviously, but he was getting push in the pocket which was critical for the interior guys so the edge guys can get home. Just all around, he has played well," Gruden said of the injured rookie defensive end.
Allen underwent a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) exam on Monday to determine the extent of the foot injury, and Gruden said he's scheduled to visit renowned foot specialist Dr. Robert Anderson as well.
Allen injured his foot late in the fourth quarter of the Redskins 26–24 victory over the San Francisco 49ers last Sunday. He has started all five games for the Redskins this season and he has recorded 10 tackles and a sack.
With Allen sidelined, the Redskins will have to rely on Terrell McClain and Stacy McGee. Ziggy Hood should also see an increase in playing time, and second-year pro Anthony Lanier will get the chance to enter the rotation.
Meanwhile, JP Finlay of NBC Sports Washington has reported that kicker Dustin Hopkins is expected to miss the rest of the season with a hip injury. Gruden had announced the injury as a right hip rotator muscle sprain during a press conference on Monday, but NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said Hopkins has a partially torn hip muscle.
