'Wayward Pines' season 2 news, cast, spoilers: Season 2 confirmed by M. Night Shyamalan

"Wayward Pines" was certainly an unexpected hit. When the first season ended, many fans had pushed for a second season, despite knowing that it was only supposed to be a limited series. Now, producer and director M. Night Shyamalan revealed in an interview with Fox 5 NY that he is interested in pursuing a second season; however, before fans celebrate, he is also clear that there might be more that needs to be discussed before moving forward.

In the interview, he said, "The show became the number one scripted show of the summer. It was a giant hit, and everyone started asking are you going to do a second season." He also revealed about spending time with the books' author, Black Crouch. "I've been talking with the author. I need to know the end. I'm working with the writers. If I can think of an end and work backwards, then I'll do it. In TV I need to know there is an end point." He continues to talk about their meeting and shared, "I did ask Crouch to come over to my house - which he did. We did sit down for a few days. We talked about all kinds of things. We both felt very good about our time together."

Dana Walden from Fox recently told Deadline that Shyamalan and Crouch have only started talking, and if a continuation does happen, then perhaps it wouldn't be a full-on second season but rather just a mini-series.

Shyamalan also implied that he doesn't want to produce a mediocre show just because they have a chance to produce a second season. He goes on to say, "We both made a pact saying if we did decide to do something more here that we would approach it with a very high level of integrity and not let the opportunity dictate it because we're both happy to walk away ... So I am happy to walk away, especially with such a wonderful reaction and all that stuff. But honestly, Blake and I do have an idea."

Many fans of Wayward Pines hope that Shyamalan's plans to satisfy their hunger for the series would push through; however, for now, further announcements are awaited.
