It can be recalled that Season 2 ended with a cliffhanger on who will dominate, whether it be the humans or the Abbies. A human child was seen holding the Abbies finger in the final episode of the last season. The child however will lead to speculation of whether or not it belongs to the species of the Abbies.
As "Wayward Pines" Season 3 kicks in, the child if it be an entirely new breed will come to exist after a thousand years. The new breed will bring in more characters to the upcoming season. This only means that new set of cast will come to join the third season. There are also reports that Wayward Pines Season 3 will bring in an unexpected death from the characters. The show is about human extinction and will bring in a new breed.

This means that Theo (Jason Patric), Cj (Djimon Huonsou) and Xander (Josh Helman) are all coming back. It is a mystery still on how long they are coming back once they awaken from their sleep.
