'Wentworth' Season 5 News, Update: Series Gets Official Release Date; Kaz to Replace Bea As Top Dog

Foxtel had some good news for "Wentworth" fans early this week when it finally announced the official release date for "Wentworth" season 5.

The network announced via its official Facebook page that "Wentworth" will be back on April 4 for its fifth season. Foxtel also dropped a new teaser video for the upcoming season to get fans even more thrilled for the return of the series.

The clip shows Allie Novak (Kate Jenkinson) shedding some tears as she leaves flowers on the grave of Bea Smith (Danielle Cormack), her lesbian lover. It can be recalled that in the final episode of the previous season, Allie woke up from coma.

When the series returns, Allie will avenge the death of Bea. Spoilers for season 5 also suggest that the new season will see how the inmates and staff of Wentworth Correctional Centre cope with Bea's death. In season 4, Bea died after being repeatedly stabbed by Joan Ferguson (Pamela Rabe).

While the death of Bea was heartbreaking, it did not come as a surprise for fans. Prior to her death, "Wentworth" executive producer Jo Porter had already confirmed that the main character would die in the series.

Now that Bea is dead, Kaz Proctor (Tammy Macintosh) will take her place as the top dog in the correctional. In the series, Kaz is one of the members of the vigilante group known as the Red Right Hand and had always supported Bea when she was still alive.

Foxtel recently revealed that Kaz will face a new challenge as she ensures peace and order inside the prison. She will also try to endure the pain brought by Bea's death. In season 4, Kaz was known for her deep admiration for the former top dog. One scene from the previous season even saw her yelling her support for Bea following her sentencing.

"Wentworth" season 5 premieres on April 4 on Showcase in Australia.
