'Wentworth' Season 5: Vera and Ferguson Do Damage Control; Franky Haunted by Past

The upcoming new season of "Wentworth" premieres today as the show revisits a shaken Wentworth Correctional Centre. The fifth season of the prison drama series premieres tonight at 8:30 p.m. EDT on Showcase.

The new title and synopsis of the upcoming premiere episode of "Wentworth" season 5 have been released online, and the events seem to have really shaken the Wentworth Correctional Centre to its very core. The new episode for season 5 is called "Scars" and will take over from where season 4 left off as the events after Bea Smith's (Danielle Cormack) death unfold. The TV show guide Australian Television has the details in their preview of the upcoming show.

First, the overview for the upcoming season deals with issues that have been ongoing before the tragedy that happened to Bea. Doreen Anderson (Shareena Clanton) is still struggling with the fact that she cannot be with her son, and this will be one of the plot points followed by the new season as the show continues. Meanwhile, Sue "Boomer" Jenkins (Katrina Milosevic) and most of the inmates have rallied around Maxine Conway (Socratis Otto) to support her in her battle with breast cancer, as Conway starts undergoing treatment. Will Conway survive her bout with the deadly disease given the conditions and the current situation of the correctional center? Viewers can find out on Tuesday as "Wentworth" carries her story into the fifth season.

Now, with the center in disarray following the events that led to Bea's death, the new top dog Kaz Proctor (Tammy Macintosh) must put her foot down to bring a semblance of order to the panicking inmates. Sonia Stevens (Sigrid Thornton) remain catatonic through it all, even as her trial looms ahead.

Vera Bennett (Kate Atkinson) and Joan Ferguson (Pamela Rabe) try to deal with the fallout of Bea's death in their own ways, while Franky Doyle (Nicole da Silva) starts getting episodes in which she is haunted by her past.

The first episode of "Wentworth" season 5 airs April 4, at 8:30 p.m. EDT on Showcase.
