This newest offering from HBO is like the "Jurrasic Park" meets "Artificial Intelligence: A.I." meets "Hostel." Well, not exactly, but you kind of get the idea.
The one-hour long sci-fi and drama series "Westworld" is based on the 1973 motion picture written and directed by Michael Crichton. The story revolves around a futuristic theme park where guests of affluent nature can come and enjoy the services of true-to-life androids.

The guests, which are mostly male, can live out their fantasies during their stay at the theme park. There is no one to hold them back whatever they desire to the robots, mostly female, at their disposal--- the setup ends up mostly with violence, rape, and murder, as you might have guessed.
But, things will take a turn for the worst, as they always do, when these robots start to have a recollection of these gruesome acts on them. This and a lot more intrigues are what the show promises to the viewers.
The cast of the pilot season will be led by seasoned actor Anthony Hopkins, who play the role of Dr. Robert Ford. Joining him are Ed Harris (The Man in Black), James Marsden (Teddy Flood), Evan Rachel Wood (Dolores Abernathy), Thandie Newton (Maeve Millay), Sidse Babett Knudsen (Theresa Cullen), Jeffrey Wright (Bernard Lowe), Tessa Thompson (Charlotte Hale) and Jimmi Simpson (William), among others.
What Critics Have to Say About 'Westworld'
If you aren't convinced that this show is the right one for you, maybe you can listen to what the critics are saying about "Westworld" and you'd get the idea why a lot of people have already raved about the show.
Time hailed "Westworld" as something that's more thoughtful compared to any other drama that's come out recently. The set was put up beautifully just as how the subject matter was crafted with its choice details.
As for IGN, the series is simply top-notch television in all aspects. It says that "Westworld" could blow you away with its stellar cast, excellent visuals, and amazing score by Ramin Djawadi, who is also responsible for the music in "Game of Thrones" and "Person of Interest." It will get you hooked from the get-go.
"If Nolan, Joy and executive producer JJ Abrams keep up this early quality, there's scope for a continuing series here, a rare beast that can promise action, sex, philosophy, intrigue and be many things to many people," says the Den Of Geek in its own review.
Meanwhile, The New York Times also has some good things to say about the new HBO series. It views the show as something that is visually lush. According to the review, while the show has some C.G.I. effects, one thing that will really strike you is the simple acting.
"Westworld" premieres this Oct. 2, that's a Sunday, at 9 p.m. on HBO.
