'Westworld' Season 2 Release Date News, Plot Rumors: HBO Series Not Expected Until 2018; Elsie Still Alive?
HBO's newly popular and critically acclaimed science fiction drama "Westworld" ended its first season run December 2016, and although a second season is already confirmed, fans have to wait until 2018 to get their next fix of the show.
It will be quite a wait indeed for fans of "Westworld," but showrunner Jonathan Nolan already confirmed through a previous interview with Variety that they are currently working on the show's scripts and outlines.
Nolan also talked about the complexity of trying to write and produce at the same time, one of the reasons why the second season of the show is pegged at 2018. "The best that you can possibly hope for with a film franchise is to turn around another installment in two or three years," he added.
Showrunners Nolan and Lisa Joy did not let the first season end without teasing fans as to what they could expect for season 2.
Nolan first and foremost promised fans that the second season will explore more about the hosts - particularly their construction and source of power.
The advantages and disadvantages of being a host will also be tackled in season 2. As discovered during the first season, hosts are almost similar to humans, only they don't need oxygen and they can be brought back to life through repairs whenever they die.
Meanwhile, fans are still hoping that Dr. Ford (Anthony Hopkins) and Elsie (Shannon Woodward) will still make a comeback by season 2, but Nolan has already confirmed that Ford is really dead.
"Ford is God. This is the death of God as the jumping off point for our story but also a full meal to itself," Nolan told Variety.
Nolan made no mention about Elsie's apparent death, so fans may still have reason to believe that she will come back by the second season. As to how the show will try to resurrect her character, it still remains a mystery.
