What Does Roman Reigns' Suspension Mean for WWE and the Shield?
Former Champion Roman Reigns Suspended, Will Miss Key Events
Former champion Roman Reigns has been officially suspended by the WWE for violating the company's wellness policy. After the WWE made the announcement that Reigns was to be suspended for 30 days, the superstar took to Twitter and made an official apology to his fans stating that the suspension was his fault and he will man up to it.
So what does Reigns' suspension mean to the current WWE storyline?
Battleground Main Event to Change
Currently, the main event for WWE's next pay-per-view "Battlegrounds" is supposed be a triple threat match containing all three former Shield members. However, after the suspension of Reigns, this match may have to wait until at least the annual "Summer Slam" event.
It will be interesting how WWE's creative writers will exclude Reigns out of the match, considering that many fans have been waiting to see this fight ever since the Shield broke up a few years ago.
Heel Turn
This time-off from WWE TV could give Reigns an opportunity to finally turn heel. It is no secret that fans have not taken well to Reigns as a champion. As was the case during the "Money in the Bank" pay-per-view when the crowd was noticeably cheering for Rollins and booing Reigns.
There seemed to be a shift in attitude the following night on Raw as Reigns finally addressed the elephant in the room and mentioned that the crowd had not been kind to him as of late. In his promo during Raw, Reigns stated that he had done what he could to please the fans, giving it his all night after night but still would get a negative reaction.
During his time off, he could give WWE some creative time to turn things around and, perhaps, even team up again with former Shield teammate Seth Rollins.
Time to Train
The best thing about Reigns' suspension is that it will give him time to train his microphone skills as well as add new moves to his skill set. While in the past, Reigns has gone to acting school to improve on his microphone skills, he still needs a lot of improvement if he wants to have a long career like his cousin Dwayne "The Rock'" Johnson.
Reigns can also use this time to add new moves to his skill set. As of now, his moves only contain high-impact strength moves with a little high-flying in the mix. Not to say that Reigns has a boring move set, but it always good to add new moves for improvement.
The WWE, as per policy, has not released the exact reason how Reigns violated the wellness policy.
