A billboard with the Google logo and the date Oct. 4 was spotted in Boston this week. It sparked interest from the public about the potential launch date for the high-end Pixel 2 smartphone.
Google wasted no time in confirming that the billboard is indeed the ad for the Pixel 2. The company unveiled the campaign online via an official site that stated, "Stay tuned for more on Oct. 4." Interested consumers can submit their email address to the page to receive updates from the company just before the launch.
Rumors of a Pixel 2 release have been coming out for months. Speculations are that the new device will have an on-screen display like Samsung Galaxy Note 8 or Galaxy S8. There could be two versions: standard and XL.

HTC will manufacture the Pixel 2 standard version, like the smartphone's first generation. The XL version, with a larger screen and without the bezel, will come from LG.
The Pixel 2 is expected to run using a Snapdragon 835 processor with 4 GB of RAM. The upcoming smartphone could likely have water and dust resistant features, as well as pressure sensitivity around the sides.
Last year, Google unveiled the Pixel on the same date. The first release boasted of a camera that was considered as the best among all smartphones.
Users of Pixel were also given unlimited storage space on the cloud site Google Photos. This way, users won't have to take up storage space and memory use on their Pixel phone.
Apart from the unveiling of the smartphone, Google might also reveal its latest version of the Google Home smart speaker and the Chromebook Pixel.
The name Pixel 2 isn't the official name from Google. The full details will be revealed during the launch in San Francisco on Wednesday, Oct. 4, at 9 a.m. PST.
