What Will A 'James Bond' Musical Sound Like?
Fans will find out what a "James Bond" musical will look and sound like in the next two years or so, if plans for a musical will push through. Merry Saltzman and her outfit Placeholder Productions recently acquired rights for a stage show on the iconic spy. Saltzman is the daughter of James Bond film producer Harry Saltzman.
After "Harry Potter," James Bond is the next film franchise that is being transformed into a stage show.
The stage show, which will be a musical in particular, will be based on new material on James Bond, to be written by Dave Clarke. The songs in the musical will be written by singer/songwriter Jay Henry Weisz, a 59-year-old keyboardist and guitarist. Saltzman said that the musical will feature "existing Bond villains" but will also create new ones specifically for the musical. The musical will also feature its own new Bond girl. An IGN report also predicted that given the nature of the stage show, it will likely be less action-oriented.
No production schedules have been firmed up yet. No casting announcements have likewise been made. Saltzman however hopes to open sometime late 2017 or early 2018, with two possible venues -- Broadway or Las Vegas.
In the meantime, the next James Bond film "Spectre," with Daniel Craig in the title role is bowing in theaters on November 6, 2015. The past two films released under the franchise were considered to be some sort of a "reboot" for the series with emphasis on James Bond's back stories especially in relation to other characters in the franchise.
"Spectre," the latest film, continues to take a look at James Bond's past after the events in "Skyfall." The latest James Bond film is being directed by "Skyfall" director Sam Mendes.
James Bond is the longest running series in film history, originally based on novels written by Ian Fleming.
