What's New on Netflix in January 2018

It's a little under two weeks until 2017 comes to a close, and for Netflix fans, that also means a cap to this year's Netflix line-up of shows. The streaming service is opening 2018 with a slew of classic movies, with a few shows leaving by the end of December to make room, as well.

Classic movies seem to be the highlight of the January 2018 Netflix season, although next month seems to be a bit lighter in terms of original content, as Digital Trends points out. That's just a prelude to the flood of new shows that will be coming out on the streaming service in spring of 2018, including a ton of new anime series.

Netflix will start the year with the whole "Godfather" trilogy, all three parts, right on the first day of January. Along with the classic mob-themed series, Netflix is also launching all the "Lethal Weapon" movies, one to four, on the same day.

After that, the streaming platform launches into a "Batman" binge, starting with the old-fashioned "Batman" from 1989, soon followed by "Batman Returns," "Batman Forever," "Batman & Robin" and "Batman Begins." Forbes  has the full list of upcoming features, which, interestingly enough, does not include the rest of Christopher Nolan's epic "Batman" trilogy.

More classic come in for the rest of the month, including "Love Actually," "The Italian Job," "The Shawshank Redemption," "Breakfast at Tiffany's," and "Caddyshack."

Family-friendly fare is served as well, starting from the original "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" on Jan. 1, as well as "Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie."

Still on the animated side, but for more mature audiences, is "Devilman Crybaby" as the first of a set of anime series that Netflix spent part of their $8 billion budget to commission.

Meanwhile, fans should note that "E.T. the Extra Terrestrial" and "Pulp Fiction" will be leaving by the end of the month, among others, and should plan their viewing schedule accordingly.
