WhatsApp Update, Features News: App Now Lets Users 'Unsend' Messages
The Facebook-owned messaging app has started to roll out the update that carries the addition of recalling or "unsending" messages.
With billions of active users around the world, WhatsApp is undeniably one of the popular messaging app for mobile users that allow them to make calls and send messages for free.
First spotted by the WhatsApp-dedicated news source, WABetaInfo, it has been confirmed as of last week that developers has started issuing the feature of letting users recall messages or delete them after accidentally sending them in a chat or a group message.
Based on WhatsApp's official website, the feature is available both on the iOS and Android platforms.
"Deleting messages for everyone allows you to delete specific messages you have sent to either a group or an individual chat. This is particularly useful if you sent a message to the wrong chat or if the message you sent contains a mistake," WhatsApp developers said in the FAQ page for deleting messages.
However, it is important to note that deleting a certain message will still leave a trace and the message bubble will be replaced with a "This message was deleted" note on the chat box of the receiver/s.
It is also important to note that the delete message feature can only be used for texts that were sent in the past seven minutes — any message sent beyond that period will stay on the chat box forever.
To initiate the delete message function, users needs to long press on the message bubble to be deleted and then press the trash bin icon on the upper right side of the screen. A menu with options "Delete for everyone," "Cancel," and "Delete for me" will appear. To unsend a message, users must choose the "Delete for everyone."
This feature will only work if both the sender and the receiver has the latest version of WhatsApp.
