Who Is Hayley Geftman-Gold? CBS Executive Fired Over Comment on Las Vegas Shooting

Hayley Geftman-Gold, former vice president at CBS, weighed in on the tragic Las Vegas shooting that claimed 58 lives. Her comment sparked a wave of backlash from a nation still reeling from the incident, and CBS has fired her on Monday, Oct. 2.

A country music concert in Las Vegas turned into a scene of mass murder on Sunday night, when a lone gunman fired at the gathered crowd from the perch of his room in the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino.

The crowd attending the Route 91 Harvest Festival couldn't get away fast enough from the shooter, who was able to fire uninterrupted from the 32nd floor of the nearby hotel. The police eventually broke into his room to find him dead by apparent suicide among piles of ammunition, magazine, and at least 20 long firearms stashed in his room.

In a Facebook thread, people were discussing the tragedy when Geftman-Gold offered her piece, mostly centered around what she thought of Republicans and country music lovers who were attending the ill-fated concert.

"If they [Republicans] wouldn't do anything when children were murdered I have no hope the Repugs will ever do the right thing," she said.

"I'm actually not that even sympathetic bc country music fans often are republican gun toters," she added for good measure, as quoted by The Cut.

Her commentary has unleashed a wave of criticism, with other commenters aghast at her opinion. CBS would eventually step in, and she was no longer working with them by Monday, Oct. 2.

In their statement, CBS added their sympathies for the victims of the attack. "This individual, who was with us for approximately one year, violated the standards of our company and is no longer an employee of CBS," the statement, referring to Geftman-Gold, began.

"Her views as expressed on social media are deeply unacceptable to all of us at CBS. Our hearts go out to the victims in Las Vegas and their families," the statement from the network added.
