Why Are Tamar Braxton and Vince Herbert Getting Divorced?

Tamar Braxton and producer Vince Herbert are getting divorced, after almost nine years of marriage and a child. This came just a month after the singer announced her retirement from music in order to work on her marriage.

Braxton's spokesperson has confirmed the news to People with a statement. "At this time we can confirm Ms. Braxton has made an extremely difficult decision and has filed for divorce from Vincent Herbert," the representative said.

The split was first reported by TMZ, noting that until this new development, it has been a long relationship for the couple. They have their son, their own reality TV show, and they were also just a month away from their nine-year anniversary.

The couple first met before 2003, when Tamar's older sister, Toni Braxton, introduced the two.

The couple has a son, Logan Vincent. He's four years old now, as Braxton files for legal primary custody of their only child. "Collectively, their son Logan and his well-being during this extremely unfortunate process is most important. We ask that everyone respects her privacy during this incredibly difficult time. She appreciates everyone's love and prayers," the representative added.

Herbert will be given visitation rights, even though Braxton plans to deny spousal support from her ex-husband, according to E! online.

It was the singer who filed the divorce papers on Tuesday, Oct. 24, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split. Since last year, the couple has reportedly been involved, both in public and in private, in domestic disputes.

This could spell doom for the last season of their reality show "Tamar and Vince," just a few weeks after the Nov. 9 debut of the "Braxton Family Values" spinoff.

Despite various reports of disputes, and even a case of biting between the two, Braxton has always defended their marriage to the media up until now.

"Just because somebody says something does not make it law and I'm not gonna defend my relationship to anybody. Ever. This is a marriage," Braxton said to a paparazzi one time.
