Why the 'I Am Setsuna' Nintendo Switch Port Is a Potential Win-Win for Both Parties
Square Enix and Tokyo RPG Factory's "I am Setsuna" has established itself an instant classic by combining elements of time-tested storytelling together with a modern design. It shows that its stint is far from over as it brings itself over to the upcoming Nintendo Switch.
In preparation for its simultaneous launch with Nintendo's gaming hybrid, it has put together a trailer, summarizing the accolades it has received. It is described as a wonderful homage to how Japanese role-playing games (JRPGs) are made in the past, immersing gamers in a carefully thought out plot. Even the scoring is mesmerizing, enticing players to look forward to its Switch launch.
If anything, the partnership is a great combination and is very timely. As a matter of fact, it can benefit both parties in a variety of ways.
For the title's case, it can be recalled that despite receiving generally positive results from critics, it didn't turn out as well with sales. In an announcement via the Official Gazette capping the fiscal year ending March 2016, Tokyo RPG Factory admitted to a final deficit of ¥244 million (around $2.2 million today). Porting it to the Nintendo Switch allows it to ride the Switch hype, bringing in potential sales to make up for its previous performance.
Nintendo Switch, on the other hand, may be a hot topic for most gamers, but there are still plenty who are undecided to purchase the hybrid given the limited titles it caters to upon launch. With "I am Setsuna" adding to its currently limited roster, it gives players more options on what they can play, thus could entice unsure gamers to finally make the switch.
To top it all off, the Nintendo brand is well-known for staying true to classic themes. With "I am Setsuna" evoking the same feeling of nostalgia, the combination is rather perfect in its own right.
"I am Setsuna" will be ported on the Nintendo Switch upon the hybrid's release, March 3, 2017.
