'Wild' Movie Cast News: Reese Witherspoon Admits Being 'Confused' on How to Play Complex Character
Actress Reese Witherspoon had revealed that she was confused on how to play her latest role in the upcoming film "Wild." In the film she plays as a former drug addict and shares that she doesn't have any past "experiences" to lean on for the role. Despite the lack of experience though, she knew that the role was going to be special.
"I've never done drugs. I was really confused. I didn't know what I was doing," she told Harper's Bazaar U.K. "It just required being in a really raw emotional place that didn't feel good."
The film is based on a best-selling novel by Cheryl Strayed titled "Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail."

Aside from the characterization of a former drug addict, Witherspoon found it just as difficult to shoot the sex scenes.
"The sex scenes were, like, three percent of the movie, but it took up a tremendous amount of fear in my mind because it's daunting," the actress said. "Sometimes I was just terrified. Like a cat on a raft … 'You can't make me do it.'"
Nevertheless, Witherspoon did her best to portray her role properly since roles like these don't come that often.
"It wasn't as if there was a lack of roles being offered to me. It was the dynamic aspect of playing a really interesting, complicated person that was not readily available," said Witherspoon. "It's strange that you don't see many complicated women on film; complicated meaning complex, I should say."
The actress had also shared that she enjoys doing comedies more than drams but will readily do more drams in the future.
"Dramas are always going to require something that doesn't feel good, some sort of challenge or emotional gutting. It's not a fun space to live in a lot of the time. It's why I enjoy doing comedies. It's much easier, thinking of what rhymes with truck," she explained.
