Will Ferrell to Star in New Comedy Film "Ice Pack"
Actor-comedian Will Ferrell is set to embark into a journey to the North Pole for his upcoming comedy film titled "Ice Pack." According to a report by Deadline, Ferrell, together with Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen of Sony Pictures, Temple Hill will produce a movie based on Guy Lawson's article for "The New York Times Magazine."
The piece is titled as "Ice Pack: An Insurance Salesman and a Doctor Walk Into a Bar, and End Up at the North Pole" and it tells the story of a group of friends in the 1960's who went on an impromptu voyage to the snowy Arctic in North Pole. Slash Film detailed that the group, which is composed of six men from Minnesota, took on the adventure after a night of drinking. The expedition is led by insurance salesman Ralph Plaisted which is going to be played by Ferrell.
Plaisted was able to pull off the first undisputed surface takeover of the North Pole with the help of his teammates Art Aufderhiede, doctor friend of Plaisted, Walter Pederson, local Honda dealer, Jerry Pitzel, geography teacher and Jean Luc Bombardier, a French-Canadian snowmobile racer. Together, they made their way to the North Pole riding only snowmobiles despite the fact that they were rejected by National Geographic Society for funding. They did get corporate sponsorship, as noted in Empire. They got whiskey, designer watches and dehydrated food utilized by the Apollo program.

With very few things on hand and many obstacles in the way, the group of men accomplished their journey in April 1968 and was acknowledged as the first party to succeed in a surface traverse of the ice to the pole.
As noted in Xposè, an excerpt from the articles says: ''It was March 7, 1968, and the members of the Plaisted Polar Expedition looked up at the plane in bewilderment. They were trying to travel to the North Pole by snowmobile -- in what they believed to be the first expedition to the North Pole carried out on motorized machines, but what in reality may very well have been the first to reach the North Pole at all. Barely an hour into the trek, it wasn't going well.''
"Ice Pack" is expected to be a buddy comedy and Jonathan Kadin will oversee the film.
