'Gotham' Season 2 Spoilers: Will It Be Jerome's 'Last Laugh'?

The complex and enigmatic Jerome has been the centre of many speculations – will he metamorphose into the Joker? The episode titled "The Last Laugh" points otherwise. In a preview from the episode, viewers see Jerome visiting his terrified father. He is "seeing his father off one last time" before he begins his most terrifying attack on Gotham City with his group of villains known as the Maniax.

Fans have been loving every bit of Jerome and have had plenty of opportunities to see him in the first two episodes of "Gotham" Season 2. What viewers see is a young man gone off the rails because of an abusive childhood. Life in the circus for him must have been terribly complicated and not what he expected.

But Cameron Monaghan, who has portrayed Jerome brilliantly, also has a major role in "Shameless." So viewers have to assume he will not be a series regular. Maybe he might be killed off hence the name of the episode "The Last Laugh." The other option is to lock him away and then get him out to do something horrible some episodes away. This way viewers will get to see Jerome now and then.

In this episode, Jim Gordon is thirsting for revenge and in the trailer of the episode, Gordon and his newly-reinstated partner, Bullock, are interrogating somebody as to the whereabouts of a certain Jerome Valeska of Arkham Asylum.

Arkham Asylum has also given shelter to Gordon's love interest, Barbara Kean, who is played by Erin Richards. Barbara, Jim's lover at one point in time, has now turned psychopath and wants Jim to go down the dark path like herself.

According to TV Line, Erin Richards talks about what her TV character wants from Jim Gordon. She says "She definitely loves Jim, and she definitely wants him back. But I think it's more like she wants to bring him into the darkness of where she is. She sees who he really is, so she's kind of angered that he's playing this 'role' [of do-right lawman], like, 'No, I know who you really are, so I'm going to get you back and we'll go into this dark place together."

It is certainly going to be an interesting episode as viewers will wait to see what havoc Jerome has in mind for Gotham City and if Jim Gordon turns to his lover-turned-foe, Barbara Kean, for help?

Tune in to "The Last Laugh" of "Gotham" Season 2 airing on Tuesdays, 8 pm on FOX to find out.
