Will Janet Jackson Join Justin Timberlake in Performing at Super Bowl 2018?
It has been confirmed that the 10-time Grammy winning singer Justin Timberlake will be headlining the 2018 Super Bowl halftime show.
Despite fans' hopes that it will be a reunion between him and music icon Janet Jackson, whom he performed with during the 2004 halftime show, reports reveal that Timberlake will be going solo. It can be recalled that their past performance became controversial after Jackson had suffered a wardrobe malfunction.
The 36-year-old singer announced his participation in the halftime show on Twitter.
"Justin will be playing his old stuff during his Super Bowl performance. He plans to perform the 'classic JT stuff,'" an insider reportedly told E! News. "Justin's team has really been pushing to lock in this deal and he's very excited for the opportunity," the insider added.
There also seems to be no bad blood between the two artists as another source also told the news outlet that Jackson is "happy to hear JT is performing and thinks he will be great as always," adding that they "had some great memories."
According to Billboard, Timberlake is currently in the process of completing his fifth studio album. Despite not having released any new tracks since his "Can't Stop the Feeling" song became a hit during summer last year, the singer recently appeared at the Dave Matthews' Concert for Charlottesville and at the Pilgrimage Festival in Franklin, Tennessee last month.
Although getting the 2018 Super Bowl halftime show gig is great news for Timberlake, a number of people are also reportedly slamming him for not inviting Jackson to perform with him again, after the 2004 incident. A lot of her fans still believe that it was not merely a wardrobe malfunction and that Timberlake purposely exposed one of her breasts in front of the world after their performance.
The National Football League (NFL), on the other hand, has issued a statement denying the speculations that they have banned Jackson from the Super Bowl. As reported by ABC News, the league also defended their halftime show artist, saying that he is "the ultimate global superstar who we know will put on an entertaining and unifying show that will appeal to the massive worldwide audience."
Next year's Super Bowl, which is the 52nd event, will take place on Feb. 4, 2018 at the U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
