Will the Asus PadFone S2 Be the First to Carry Snapdragon 820?
Asus is said to be launching the successor of its PadFone S soon, as it is rumored to be available in the market by early 2016, with some reports saying it will be released in March. A specific leaker @Leaksfly shared information via Weibo. The leak claimed that the new PadFone, called the PadFone S2, will be unveiled in March 2016.
The same leak also claimed that the device will be sporting the newest Snapdragon chipset from Qualcomm, which is the Snapdragon 820 chipset. Some reports are claiming that the device will likely be among the first smartphones to have the new chipset. The new chipset boasts to be faster than the older processor chipsets that came before it, and is supposed to result in better battery performance.
Most of the recent flagship smartphones that were released are still running on the Snapdragon 810 chipset.
The PadFone S2 is rumored to have a 5.5-inch display with a 1,440 by 2,560 pixels resolution. Its RAM will be 4 GB and in terms of internal storage, it will have a 32 GB option and a 64 GB option. It is likely that this model will also have expandable storage via microSD but the threshold is yet unknown.
The new device's main rear-facing camera will be powerful at 20.7 megapixels, while its secondary front-facing camera will be quite a jump from the previous 2 megapixel one to the new 8 megapixel one in the new device.
Another area of improvement is the phone's battery which is now at 3,060mAh, compared to the previous model's 2,300mAh.
In terms of operating system, the leak said that it will be likely be using the newest OS, the Android M by the time of its release.
The Asus PadFone S2 will also come with a dock, same with the previous iteration. The dock will have a 10-inch display and its own power source, a 5,100mAh battery.
Asus has not announced the definite release date for the PadFone S2 as well as how much it will sell for.
