William, Kate Rumors Surround Possible Pregnancy: What Do 'Signs' Mean?
While the Royal Family has always been at the center of fascination, adoration, and sometimes scandal, the latest generation seems to be taking the spotlight. Now, new rumors of a possible William and Kate pregnancy are dominating headlines, and the couple's actions are lending some credibility to the speculation.
The couple has been in Singapore for a tour to see an orchid specifically designed and named after William's mother, the late Princess Diana. While they have remained relatively quiet about their plans to start a family, William recently told a fan he would specifically like to have two children.
Tongues were further set wagging when Kate refused to drink wine twice, and instead toasted the Queen with water.
"Things like this, people do look at them and wonder if they are signs. People are whispering and going, 'Is she pregnant? Is she pregnant?'" Victoria Murphy, royal correspondent for The Mirror, told ABC News.
Of course, this would not be the first time that speculation about a royal pregnancy has domineered discussion. When Diana married Prince Charles in 1981, fans immediately began speculating when the royal heir would be born. William came along one year later, much to the delight of the world.
She often complained about the intense scrutiny of the press and royal watchers, and worked hard to guard her family's privacy. Kate however, seems to be holding up well in the spotlight and has a solid supporter in William.
"I'm just very keen to have a family and both Catherine and I, you know, are looking forward to having a family in the future," William told Katie Couric in an interview. When asked if there was anything he wanted to announce, William quipped, "You won't get anything out of me. Tight lipped."
He was devastated by the loss of his mother, and it seems to have had a serious impact on his relationship with the press and with his own family. Any announcement of a royal pregnancy will not be revealed before William and Kate are ready, and even then, it's likely to be a private affair- as much as it can be when one is royal.
