Windows 10 Mobile Release Date Slated for September? Will It Salvage Microsoft's Mobile Venture?
First announced last year, the new Windows 10 multi-platform operating system from Microsoft will finally be released on July 29.
However, for people who are waiting for the update for smartphones, the Redmond giant will reportedly have another name for mobile devices.
According to a report by GSM Arena, Windows 10 Mobile release date for handsets would kick off in the third quarter of this year, probably during the IFA event in Berlin.
Whether Microsoft has developed a special Windows 10 for mobile or simply rebranded is still unknown.
In the report, the rumor came from website Neowin, which allegedly shows a slide of the upcoming events and schedules for Microsoft. In the allegedly leaked document, some details about Windows 7, Windows Mobile, and Windows 8.1 have been cited as well.
Aside from the Windows 10 event next month, and the launch for the mobile version in September, Microsoft is also planning to launch a brand new flagship. Some of these rumored flagships are the Lumia 940 and Lumia 940XL.
For the past few years, Microsoft has failed in expanding its mobile platform to more markets and its adoption rate among smartphone consumers is still way below expectations. And that's even after the Redmond giant acquired the mobile department of Nokia last year.
Whether the company admits it or not, Windows 10 could be the final opportunity for Microsoft to turn things around in its favor.
