Windows 10 Mobile Update: Upgrade Prompts Roll Out To Vodafone UK Users

The Windows 10 Mobile operating system update for older Windows Phones was earlier rumored to be rolled out starting Jan. 19, and Vodafone UK users have already started receiving prompts for the upgrade.

Neither Microsoft nor Windows has confirmed the rumored Windows 10 Mobile update rollout, but Vodafone UK users have received notifications for an available operating system upgrade. One Lumia 635 user attested that he received an alert that prompted him to upgrade his smartphone to Windows 10, according to Win Beta.

While there are speculations that the prompt messages could carry a bug, Vodafone's support team has confirmed that older Windows Phone have began receiving updates to Windows 10 Mobile, the report relays.

Meanwhile, T-Mobile had released the Windows 10 Mobile update for Lumia 640 in Poland. The upgrade has also been made available to Lumia 535 smartphones in Latin America, the International Business Times reports.

Earlier, Microsoft had announced that the Lumia 430, Lumia 540, Lumia 532, Lumia 640, Lumia 640 XL, Lumia 930, and Lumia 830 will be the first devices to receive the software update. Phones running Windows 8.0 are next on the list.

In an official Twitter statement, Lumia Help has hinted that its devices will soon receive the software update. Again, no release date was mentioned.

Users who want to check if their smartphones are eligible for the Windows 10 Mobile update can use the Microsoft app called Upgrade Advisor. The app, which is still being developed, will tell the user if their specific Windows 8.1 phone will be able to receive the update once it is rolled out. Aside from that, it will help free up space to make room for the new software. As of now, the said app is still unavailable for public use.

It is worth noting that Microsoft has promised to release Windows 10 Mobile in the first quarter of 2016 after its botched 2015 release. The specific dates of the operating system's rollout for telecoms have not been revealed, but it is expected to be released this month.
